Hi girls, could do with some advice, I want to get back into contouring but I always use Barry M chisel cheek (powder formula) which I like, but I want to try cream products. Can anyone recommend any brands they swear by? Also how do you pick the right shades? (my foundation shade is fair/light)

Hello caz I was in the same boat as you when I first wanted to try contouring! Didn’t want to spend too much money on it so I ended up the maybelline dream matte mouse and also tried the revolution foundation stick- I found that I went up a few shades darker to get a result also you need to be careful of the cool tones and warmer tones. Cooler toners means it will be more distinguished and warmer tones can almost be like a bronzer but you can get a defined look! I have a light medium to tan skin tone. Hope that helps!
It’s a bit expensive but the Chanel tan de solei cream bronzer is amazing. It is buildable, so depending on intensity you can work it up. The shade universal light will be really nice for fair/light skin tones, it kind of does the work for you and adds warmth to the tops of the cheeks, but forms a shadow in the hollows for contouring, so kind of 2 in 1. Just a really easy product to use. You could also try a concealer in a darker shade? Or the nyx cream contour sticks. Regarding shades, it depends the look you want - I prefer a slightly warmer contour as I think the cooler tones look ashy on my skin but I can still get a good contour from a warmer shade. Others in the fair/light skin tone ranges like a cooler grey tone to focus specifically in the cheek bones (fenty matchstix have some amazing shades which are cooler). If you can get to a store like boots, it can be good to see and feel the products in person and see if they can apply a cool one on one side of your face and a warmer one on the other. Another option is see what eyeshadows/bronzers you have and experiment at home with whether you prefer your contour cooler or warmer
